Grigoriy Yaroshenko (1971) is a Russian documentary photographer, curator, educator and film director.
Graduated with a degree in cinematography from the Sergei Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography in Moscow, he headed the Leica Akademie Russia (2011–13). Official photographer at the opening and closing ceremonies of the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games in Sochi (2013–14). Director of photography for the Roads of Russia multimedia online project (2015–17). He is a special projects director for The Envoy of Europe in Russia and The Herald of Europe in the UK (2000–20).
His works have been acquired by collections of the Moscow House of Photography, National Centre for Contemporary Arts (Moscow), Kulturamt der Landeshauptstadt Dusseldorf (Germany) and many private and public collections around the world. Yaroshenko worked on a number of personal projects throughout the years. In 2006 he published “Kanin Nos” book with writer Sardar Sardarov. In 2018 in collaboration with White Space Gallery (London) he published “Norilsk” — a poetic and obscure journey to the Russian city of Norilsk that was founded as a site for forced labour, constituting the centre of the Norillag system of GULAG labour camps.
In 2019 he publishes ЖД Iron Road — a year-long journey across Russia by the railroad.
Yaroshenko participated in the 64th and 65th Russian Antarctic Expedition (2019-2020) as a photographer and film director.
He is the winner of the Silver Camera and special Volkswagen award in the “Events and Everyday Life” category. Nominated for the Black & White Spider Awards (2010). Won first place for “Documentary, Social, Political and Photojournalism” in the international competition of the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts (2016).
Yaroshenko is a member of the Russian Union of Photographic Artists. He is based in Dubai.
